Scope Of Department : Periodontics is a branch of dentistry which primarily concerns itself with the health of the supporting tissues of the teeth. Apart from routine oral hygiene maintenance, other faculties which form the scope of Periodontics are treatment of Periodontitis, Depigmentation of oral tissues, Laser surgeries, Reattachment procedures, Gingivoplasty, Implant surgeries etc. The scope of the department of Community dentistry is quite broad, ranging from original studies in epidemiology, behavioral sciences related to dentistry, and health services research, methodological reports in program planning, implementation and evaluation. Community Dentistry is defined as the branch of dentistry which is practiced in relation to population and group, which drives from epidemiology an awareness of service required to organize the application of these services for the benefit of the population. The aim of Community Dentistry department is to serve as a forum for scientifically based information in community dentistry, with the intention of continually expanding the knowledge base in the field. The scope is therefore broad, ranging from original studies in epidemiology, behavioral sciences related to dentistry, and health services research through to methodological reports in program planning, implementation and evaluation.  
Patient Services :
  • Relevant history of the problem with examination of the entire oral cavity is done in the initial visits.
  • Diagnosis of the problem .Retrospective assessment is done of the causative elements.
  • Preventive And Therapeutic treatment is provided.
  • Maintenance visits And follow-ups as per the schedule is practiced.
  • Educative sessions about tobacco cessation are undertaken.
  • Demonstration of Plaque control techniques with audio-visual assistance.
  • Conduction of survey and use of appropriate methods to impart Oral Health Education.
  • Diet counseling And education about Nutrition and diet on general Health and Oral health, dental caries, pariodontal disease and oral cancers.
Activities : Academic Activities
  • Take detail history
  • Conduct clinical examination including all diagnostic procedures to arrive at diagnosis at the individual level and conduct survey of the community at state and national level of all conditions related to oral health to arrive at community diagnosis.
  • Plan and perform all necessary treatment, prevention and promotion of Oral Health at the individual and community level.
  • Plan appropriate Community Oral Health Program, conduct the program and evaluate, at the community level.
  • Ability to make use of knowledge of epidemiology to identify causes and plan appropriate preventive and control measures.
  • Develop appropriate person power at various levels and their effective utilization.
  • Conduct survey and use appropriate methods to impart Oral Health Education.
  • Develop ways of helping the community towards easy payment plan, and followed by evaluation for their oral health care needs.
  • Develop the planning, implementation, evaluation and administrative skills to carry out successful community Oral Health Programs.
